한국교육개발원에서는 2021년부터 2030년까지 10년 간 ‘학교 성장과 변화에 대한 10년 연구1)’를 수행한다. 이 연구는 단위학교의 성장과 변화를 심층적·체계적·장기적으로 관 찰하여 장기간에 걸쳐 학교와 관련한 다양한 자료를 함께 기록하고 축적함으로써 학교 변화를 추동하는 요소와 매커니즘을 다각도로 규명하여, 학교의 성장과 변화에 대한 특 징을 논리적으로 기술하고 이의 탐색을 위한 이론적 토대를 마련하고자 기획되었다. 학교 변화를 촉진하는 요인과 그러한 변화를 통해 학교가 어떻게 성장하는지를 종합적 으로 살펴보는 것은 급변하는 사회에서 학교가 어떻게 변화하고 성장해야 하는지 또 이 를 위한 지원 방안은 무엇인지에 대한 깊은 통찰을 제공해 줄 것이다. 그러나 다른 유기 체나 기업 조직과 달리 ‘학교’의 ‘변화’와 ‘성장’은 어떠한 의미인지, ‘성장’의 준거는 무 엇으로 볼 것인지, 또한 이를 보기 위해 장기간 학교의 어떠한 요인을 어떠한 방법으로 분석해야하는 지에 대해서는 오랜 숙의과정을 필요로 한다. 학교 변화나 성장에 대한 시 각, 학교 변화를 분석하는 틀 역시 학자마다 다양하여 학교 변화를 탐색하기 위해 어떠한 요인을 어떠한 방법으로 분석하느냐에 따라 연구 설계는 달라질 수 있기 때문이다.
이에 ‘10년 연구’의 제 1차 년도 연구인 ‘학교 성장과 변화에 대한 10년 연구(Ⅰ)’은 학교의 성장과 변화를 탐색하기 위한 분석틀을 정하고 데이터 수집과 축적 및 분석하는 방법의 구안 등 ‘10년 연구’에 대하여 설계하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
